Infoshops Across America

Editors' Note

This website was created before Katrina hit the US, but put up on the web afterwards. I'm not sure what's happened to the crew involved with the Iron Rail, but we're leaving this page up as a reminder of the great infoshop in the great city of New Orleans

New Orleans, LA 70117

Forget Bourbon Street and the French Market, head over a little further East, to a triangular neighborhood centered around French Street. This little neighborhood supposedly has better music and a better nighlife than the tourist traps in the heard of New Orleans.

The Iron Rail is located still a little east of this neighborhood, and definately worth the short trip. It's zine library is one of the most extensive I've seen yet, and I saw zines there I've never seen elsewhere. You can grab a cup of coffee and sit down at a table and read a zine you're going to buy, or a book from their library collection.

When I was there, an older guy came in and was looking around the library. After browsing for about ten minutes, he walked back out to his truck, gunned it and sped away. The woman working at Iron Rail said she was curious as to what he was doing, and said she saw a police sticker on his car.
